Sports Recap: Highs and Lows

While the Pull drew a lot of spectator attention during the fourth weekend of September, Hope athletics were in full swing as well. The men’s golf team placed second at the MIAA Jamboree in Adrian, MI on Saturday, and then went on to place first on Monday at the MIAA Jamboree in Kalamazoo, MI. Hope’s men’s soccer team also took the win against Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday, bringing the team 6-4 for the season. On the other hand, the women’s soccer team continued their trend with a sixth game going into double overtime against Kalamazoo College. The game ended as a draw, the record-breaking fifth one of the season. Women’s volleyball also had a match this weekend against classic rivals Calvin College. Unfortunately, the Flying Dutch could not outplay the Knights and lost the game 3-0, putting the team at 11-4 overall for the season and 1-1 in the MIAA games.

In related news, the H-Club Luncheon series began Sept. 23 and will take place every Monday through November. The H-Club is a group that aims to connect existing athletes and coaches with athletic program alumni. Entry is $11 per person, buffet lunch included, and the next meeting will be Oct. 7 at 11:30 a.m. in the Haworth Inn and Conference Center. In the meantime, here’s to another week of successful Hope athletics, and many more to come!
