Hope College men’s tennis team swept Albion College this past Saturday, April 14. Michael Kiley (‘19) and Timothy Roe (‘19) led the Flying Dutchmen with their undefeated status throughout each game. The team’s record is now 3-2 in the MIAA and 6-10 overall.

Kiley responded to a few questions following this weekend’s matches:

  1. How do your standings in the MIAA look so far in this season? Do you expect to be on top by the end of the season?

Kiley: “We are currently sitting in third place in the MIAA for the regular season after a few tough losses. Since we only play each conference team once during the regular season, we probably won’t be able to come back from that to win the regular season title. We will make the conference tournament, and if we all play the way I know we can we have a great shot at winning that.”

  1. Comment on the Albion match on Saturday. How did everyone on the team perform?

“Everyone played great.”

  1. How is this year better and/or different than previous seasons?

“I think that we’ve been getting a lot better each year for the past few years, and that this year is just another step in that road. The new guys have been great- our freshmen players and transfers have all made key contributions to our success this year. I’m also really impressed with how all the returners have improved over the offseason. And finally this year we are led by two new coaches, Head Coach Bob Cawood and Assistant Coach Matt Hamilton. They both bring a huge amount of knowledge and experience to the team, and it’s been great getting to learn from them.”
