On Friday, former FBI Director Robert Mueller III released an additional set of indictments pertaining to his special investigation into the 2016 presidential election. Mueller, alongside his tightly-aligned special counsel, was assigned to extirpate or substantiate claims concerning Russian collusion or interference in the recent 2016 election. After long deliberation, Mueller authorized the full disclosure of a 37 page document containing an indictment of 13 Russian nationals who were involved in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. The detailed accounts within the document offer points of concern that suggest an underlying reality in America.
According to the report, “beginning as early as 2014, Defendant ORGANIZATION began operations to interfere with the U.S. political system.” The term “ORGANIZATION” refers to the Russian operatives who had meddled in the election. While this fact may seem rather negligible, the importance of this statement is quite paramount. The inception of these Russian influences began well in advance of any distinguishable U.S. presidential candidates. Given this particular timeline, the Russians were clearly interested in wreaking havoc upon the American political atmosphere. As a result, the claims that seek to indict the Trump campaign of collusion seem to be called into question. Moreover, with the 2018 midterm elections looming, the Russian involvement seems to pose an impending threat to American democracy.
Additionally, the investigation reveals Russian intentions surrounding the promotion of Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders as well as the degradation of others. The document avers:
“By 2016, Defendants and their co-conspirators used their fictitious online personas to interfere with the 2016 U.S. presidential election. They engaged in operations primarily intended to communicate derogatory information about Hillary Clinton, to denigrate other candidates such as Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, and to support Bernie Sanders and then-candidate Donald Trump.”
This statement reveals a few intriguing details. The Russians intentionally sought to experiment within the American election system through persuasion and dissuasion.
Furthermore, they intended to disrupt and destroy any momentum belonging to the Clinton, Cruz and Rubio campaigns, respectively. These tactics contributed to the already hostile and tumultuous atmosphere surrounding the election. Finally and most importantly, the Russians had the “strategic goal to sow discord in the U.S. political system, including the 2016 presidential election.” Here lies the smoking gun.
The Mueller investigation has scraped the surface of an imminent and substantial calamity in America.
As a direct result of Putin’s cronies, the current American political culture has been further thrust into an environment rife with dissent.
The well has been poisoned.

What are the next steps in the investigation?

The next steps would be possibly asking Trump to testify, indict others who may be involved, or concluding the investigation. Much of the information found has acquitted Trump from “collusion.”
