Last Wednesday the women’s soccer team played Albion College, a team they beat two weeks earlier in double overtime, in the MIAA tournament semifinal. The team repeated their victory with a score of 3-1, securing their place in the final that took place last Saturday. The team played Adrian College, whom they beat earlier this year, playing for a bid to the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer tournament. In a shock to the fans and players, the Flying Dutch lost to Adrian 1-0. Head coach Leigh Sears spoke on the match. “We started slow, so be it. They played a really good first half. Credit to them. But we had chance after chance after chance…it’s called soccer. That’s how it goes sometimes.”
The NCAA tournament bracket came out Monday, with Hope in the bracket. They play Bridgewater College (Va.) at Otterbein University on Friday. The men’s team suffered a loss to Calvin College in the MIAA tournament semifinal at 5-0, moving their season record to 14-3-1 overall. The Flying Dutchmen had several players receiving AllMIAA honors. Junior Isaac Braak was selected for MIAA first team. Head coach Dave Brandt commented on the athlete’s stamina. “Isaac is a tireless worker. He is creative, slippery and very dangerous on the dribble. He is a great playmaker, smart, and opportunistic.” Senior Christian Dault, junior Logan Bylsma and sophomore Ty Dalton all received MIAA second team honors. The NCAA tournament bracket was released Monday, and unfortunately they were not selected for the competition.
