The baseball team played Alma College last Saturday, taking two 7-6 walk-off wins in some intense playing. The team’s season record moved to 22-1 overall, with an MIAA record of 13-1, keeping them tied for first place in the MIAA with Albion College. The first game against Alma was won with a bases-loaded walk drawn by senior Jack Sojka, the second won with an impressive home run hit over the right field fence by sophomore Evan Maday. “Typical Alma team: scrappy, plays hard, never quits,” head coach Stu Fritz commented. “I didn’t think we executed very well, but we found a way in both games.
It’s what we’ve said all season. When you love being around each other that much, you find ways to win. I couldn’t be happier for the two wins, but we’ve got some things we need to clean up.” The softball team also played last Saturday but against Adrian College, taking two victories as well. They swept Adrian with a 4-1 and a 5-4 game, moving their season record to 17-7 overall and 5-3 in the MIAA, moving them to third place. Sophomore shortstop Savannah Dixon delivered three RBIs during the game, contributing greatly to the wins. She had the winning run in the sixth inning of the second game. The teams play again this week. Wish them luck!
