Last week was Meg Peel’s (’21) first week of MIAA competition as a swimmer for Hope College, and the freshman has already claimed MIAA “Swimmer of the Week” honors.
This award comes after Peel clinched three first-place finishes in Hope’s dual meet against Albion College last Saturday, winning the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:06.96 and 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.53, and leading off the winning 200-yard medley relay with teammates Paula Nolte (’20), Chloe Palajac (’18) and Sydney Asselin (’19). The team clocked in at a time of 1:51.60.
Peel’s finish in the 200-yard backstroke broke a pool record among Albion’s facilities. This freshman played an instrumental role in Hope’s victory over Albion in the first meet of the year and performed well in what looks to be the start of a successful career with Hope women’s swimming.
