In conjunction with the procured release of last week’s FISA memo, a Democratic “rebuttal” has been crafted by ranking member Adam Schiff (D-CA) of the House Intelligence Committee. The entire committee voted unanimously to release the Democratic memo; however, the White House called for proper edits to be made before the authorization of an official release.
In other news, the beset of a second government shutdown arrived upon the doorstep of Congress Thursday evening. After a prolonged filibuster in the Senate, Rand Paul (R-KY) successfully closed the doors of the government. The Republican from Kentucky was particularly concerned about the extirpation of spending caps, claiming “the dirty little secret is that, by and large, both parties don’t care about the debt.” Nevertheless, his last-ditch effort to amend the bill was futile. The government simply wavered in limbo for five hours before extending the budget.
