Bultman Student Center on schedule

Hope College’s Jim and Martie Bultman Student Center, which broke ground last year on August 31, has been undergoing construction all summer and is expected to be completed on schedule midway through March 2017. Another month will be required in order to install all of the necessary equipment and furniture for the building and finish touching up the student center’s landscaping. If construction continues on schedule, the center is expected to be ready by the graduation weekend of the class of 2017.

“Construction has proceeded uneventfully,” Greg Maybury, director of operations at Hope’s Physical Plant department, commented. “The only challenge has been the tight site constraints for delivery of and lay down space for construction materials.”

The student center will house a variety of services and activities, including the Student Life offices, the Center for Diversity and Inclusion, Counseling and Psychological Services and a Campus Ministries office adjacent to the chapel.

“It will be an exciting building for the students, at the crossroads of the campus and fully dedicated to student use,” Maybury said. “With lots of meeting spaces for student organizations, an expansive lounge area with fireplace and views to the outside, a 200 seat multi-purpose theater style space, a cafe, a chapel and a large flexible program space, students will definitely find many ways to enjoy this incredible building.”

After a lengthy construction period, Hope students will be able to spend their downtime experiencing the multitude of activities that the Bultman Student Center.
