OPUS – The Hope College Literary and Arts Magazine

OPUS is Hope College’s student-run magazine, a vibrant platform that showcases the creative expressions of the student body. This publication, which is released once every semester, is a space where students can submit their creative work, whether it be poetry, short stories, or visual artwork. The magazine aims to foster creativity, spark conversation and celebrate the artistic spirit that thrives within Hope College students.

Each issue of OPUS is meticulously curated by a dedicated team of student editors, who work hard to ensure that every submitted piece is given the attention it deserves. The editorial process is one that seeks to include a wide range of voices, styles and perspectives, ensuring that the magazine reflects the variety of experiences and ideas that define the Hope College community. From thought-provoking poetry to experimental short fiction and stunning visual artwork, the OPUS magazine is a collection that demonstrates the artistic depth of the student body.

One of the most exciting aspects of OPUS is the opportunity it provides for students to share their creative works with a broader audience. Whether you are a seasoned writer or an aspiring poet, submitting your work to OPUS allows you to contribute to the rich cultural fabric of the college. It’s not just about showcasing your talent—it’s about being part of something larger than yourself. The magazine is a celebration of community, students coming together to share their stories and perspectives and of the transformative power of art and creativity.

In addition to being a publication, OPUS also hosts an event each semester known as OPUS Soup. This event celebrates the release of the latest issue of the magazine and serves as a gathering for those who have contributed to the magazine, as well as anyone interested in the creative arts. OPUS Soup is a night of food, art and fun, where students can come together to enjoy each other’s work. It’s an opportunity to engage with the magazine in a more personal way, as contributors get the chance to see their pieces in print and connect with others who share their passion for creativity.

At OPUS Soup, you might find students reading aloud their poetry, discussing the inspirations behind their stories or even sharing the creative process that led to their artwork. It’s a lively and welcoming environment, where the exchange of ideas is encouraged, and the spirit of collaboration is palpable. For many students, OPUS Soup is one of the highlights of the semester, a night that allows them to feel connected to the broader creative community at Hope College.

If you are a student at Hope College and have been considering submitting your work to OPUS, now is the perfect time to do so. The deadline for submissions is fast approaching—midnight on Friday, Jan. 31. Whether you are submitting a piece of poetry, a short story or a piece of visual art, your contribution is welcomed. OPUS encourages students from all disciplines and backgrounds to submit their work, as the magazine is meant to be inclusive and reflective of the diverse voices on campus. No matter your medium or style, your voice has a place in the pages of OPUS.
