Hope vs. Calvin lax game

The Hope College men’s lacrosse team is continuing with their victorious season. With a record-breaking 11 wins after the game against Calvin College this past Saturday, they were able to surpass last season’s school record of 10 wins.

The Flying Dutchmen shutout Calvin with a final score of 13-0, their second shutout of the season. This also increased their MIAA standing to 4-0 for the season so far.

Max Kuiper (‘20) and Rocco Mularoni (‘20) both scored three goals, the highest scoring players in the game. Other contributors included Gino Battaglia (‘20) and Scott Brooks (‘20) with two goals each.

The three goals for Mularoni increased his career high to 90 goals, 46 of them being in this season. He only needs four more  to become the second Hope men’s lacrosse player to reach 50 in one season. He is ranked in the top 20 for goals per game in the nation, along with leading in the MIAA.

Mularoni and Marshall VanBelkum (‘20) won the MIAA men’s lacrosse players of the week honors, with VanBelkum winning the defensive title and Mularoni for offense.  VanBelkum won 82% on face- offs and got 21 ground balls last  week in the games against Calvin and Olivet College. Mularoni had nine goals between the two games, four assists and 10 ground balls.

Come out and support the Flying Dutchmen in their home game this weekend at 4 p.m., as they face off with Adrian College on Saturday. The team will be reaching for 5-0 in the MIAA with only three games left in the season.
