Annual showcase gives taste of musical talent

Do you ever find yourself looking for something to do on a Friday evening? Well, this weekend, look no further than the Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts, where Hope’s music department will be hosting their 31st annual Musical Showcase concert in the concert hall. Featuring several of the department’s ensembles, as well as a multitude of soloists, the showcase is a fast-paced performance that never fails to thrill the audience members.

Kicking off the show will be sophomore Brooke Van Wyk, performing “Fanfare” by Jaques Nicholas Lemmens on the organ and senior Hannah Karel singing “Fair Robin I Love” by Victor Herbert. The showcase will feature performances from some of Hope’s top ensembles, including the Jazz Arts Collective, Hope’s Symphony Orchestra, Chapel Choir and Wind Ensemble, amongst others. While each group is only showing off a taste of their talent, the show is set to last approximately an hour and a half, with all of the solos adding some length to the show. There will also be an intermission between the Orchestra performance and the Chapel Choir performance.

While Hope’s ensembles can perform in their own concerts throughout the semester, the showcase is one of the only times soloists are given the opportunity to shine outside of departmental recitals, which tend to be primarily for other music students. At this year’s showcase, solo performers range from organ to voice, piano to violin, allowing for the Hope community to see on a deeper level the amount of talent in the Jack H. Miller Center. Tickets for this year’s Musical Showcase are on sale now at the ticket office in the Anderson-Werkman Financial Center on 8th Street, and are available online at hope.edu/tickets. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. We hope to see you there!
